Secrets

Do you have a secret? You probably do. Everybody has one. I think we all know that. Its no secret.

But why does one have one? I guess the most common one would have to be that you don't want to hurt your loved ones. So this makes you wonder what is that secret that can hurt someone? Well it could be anything. But most probably its something bad. So we keep it in. When you think about this a little more you will see that its kept in because you don't dare to let it out. And the pretense used for this is that you don't want to hurt the people you love. Recently saw a bumper sticker of AA, "You're only as sick as your secrets". 

There is another take on secrets. There are somethings that one doesn't want to share with anyone. Not that it's bad but because its something that one believes that no one would ever understand and so why let it out and complicate life. Such secrets last a life time and in the end they just die with you. I like such secrets. But sometimes such secrets can become self consuming and start to eat you up little by little. So one should maybe go by what George Orwell said in 1984, "If you want to keep a secret, you must also hide it from yourself.” And then hope that one day that the secret becomes insignificant and irrelevant and dies a natural death.
